:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from DallasGirl6230 -- Inspiring Story - Not Just For Entrepreneurs : Loved this book!! It's very hard to put down. Yes, it tells the story of an entrepreneur who starts and sells her tech company, but it's also about survival, overcoming betrayal and heartbreak and tragic circumstances. It's about finding your way out of bad situations and not giving up when everything looks bleak. It's about friendship and love and how the kindness of a few people can change the trajectory of someone's life. It's about the things that many of us struggle with - self doubt, failed relationships, addiction, childhood trauma and mistakes that feel insurmountable. Finding the Exit offers a fascinating glimpse into the start-up world, raising money and dealing with the inevitable problems that arise when when you're inventing as you go. The story is served up with a big dose of vulnerability and emotional truth. It made me laugh out loud and cry more than once. I've never read a book like this one. I highly recommend it. Its a great read. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2018 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kenni Driver -- Life's Tools You Use to Build Yourself Up are the Same as Those You Use to Build a Business : I love the idea of giving concrete visuals to some of the places I read about in Lea Ellermeier's emotion-packed and educational book. It was a real page turner that did a fabulous job of showing how life struggles can make you stronger and lead you down the path to personal and professional growth. Through hard work, Lea found the entrance and the exit doors that brought her freedom, success, acceptance, love, and happiness. As a friend and a colleague with whom I worked many years ago, I went through a strong urge to want to hug her, to cry, to smile, to want to take her under my wing, to stand and to proclaim loudly, "You Go Girl!" And you did! I am very proud of what Lea has accomplished in her life and with this book. By sharing of herself at the deepest of levels, she has produced a book that will help others see that you don't have to let struggles throughout your life destroy or define you. You can accept that they happened and use them to gain strength. I would recommend Finding the Exit not only to anyone thinking about starting a business, but also for anyone in a startup or thinking of working for one. The messages within this book will serve as good lessons and models for all. Congratulations Lea! ( Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2018 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Roy Miller -- Atypical, personal and a must-read for entrepreneurs : Finding the Exit is an atypical business book, a memoir brimming with personal life’s realities: insecurity, self destruction and one woman’s inscrutable tenacity to fight and face the innate troubles of family, marriage, motherhood, business-making and moneymaking amid countless scoundrels and saviors. Lea shares her journey in a way that is shockingly vulnerable and wonderfully refreshing for anyone who’s ever worked in business, especially for entrepreneurs who know (but rarely admit) the foibles and failures of the Entrepreneur’s Journey. It’s funny, sad, raw and real. If you’re in business and ever started a business, you’ll laugh, roll your eyes, squirm in your seat, cry and revel in her victories. It’s the best read I’ve had in years! ( Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2018 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Julie A Kokrda -- A must read!! Authentic voice and much more engaging than I was expecting! : While this book is technically a "business memoir", it is SO much more than that. This is truly an excellent book for anyone who is looking for the motivation to move forward toward their goals. The author's authentic voice makes this a compelling read. Sometimes self-deprecating and humorous, other times raw and painful, but always honest. This book is a realistic peek into the perils of running a start-up, with a huge dose of Ms. Ellermeier's personal history and reality thrown into the mix. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from S. Yogendra -- Quick but worthy read for founders building their businesses : I bought the Kindle version of Finding The Exit after seeing it mentioned in a female founders' community where I am active. I finished reading the book in 1.5 days dedicating two hours each in the morning and in the evening, such was the flow of the story, which weaves Ms Lea A Ellermeier's origin story with the story of her business that she painstakingly built and successfully sold to 3M, the latter being "the exit" mentioned in the title of the book. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from S Benton-Tarry -- An Enjoyable Read : I do not run and have never had any ambition to run my own business. If you either are or have ambitions in this direction, there is some really interesting information in this book. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 4, 2019 )
