  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Charles Stringham -- Yes, A Theory of Everything : In this monumental survey of the human past and its perilous future, Terry Thiele appears to achieve the impossible: the creation of a map to an unchartable future. The Fourth Age of the title is the coming two centuries in which the rate of technological, environmental, and cultural change will exceed any existing capacities to cope. Thiele grounds his consideration of the coming Fourth Age in an exhaustive, deeply considered account of the three anthropological ages that have, since the evolution of homo sapiens, preceded it. Readers who persist through the analysis of past dynamics will sense a polymath at work, though Thiele would not make that claim for himself. Given a work of such complexity and depth, it is a blessing that Thiele can write. Readers will sense a generous human spirit driving careful analyses. In this most earnest invitation to us to wake up to a dizzying future for which, literally, almost nothing has prepared us, Thiele manages to convey a kind of hope, his forecast leavened with humanity, occasional humor, and even poetry. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tim Smith -- An Amazing review of human civilization with implications for our future... : This book attempts the seemingly impossible... to project the future of human civilization by interpreting what has gotten us to this point. In this regard, and in many others, it completely exceeded my expectations. I thought I was a student of history, but was reminded that there is so much more to understanding where we came from, and where we are headed, than I had previously been exposed to. I found it fascinating, logical, and yet still provocative. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jason Voiovich -- “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent... : ... It is the one most adaptable to change”. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from John Jennings -- You'll learn a ton! : I learned a lot from this book. It provides a sweeping perspective of the important aspects of the development of our species -- why we are the way we are and how we got to now. Then Prof. Theile goes further and highlights the challenges and opportunities we face as a species from now for the next 200+ years. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Steven Burns -- Perspective : In a world where change keeps accelerating and news cycles keep getting shorter, this book provides perspective on what's happening and where humanity is headed. It gets the narrative out of the weeds and back into perspective on what really matters and where we're headed as humanity, starting from a paleolithic view of humanity and ending in the near-ish future. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Majid Rashidi -- A must to read book : A well thought, well written book that lets us know where we have been, where we are, and where we are heading to as human species. This book has been written eloquently to be understood. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from quickdeliver -- In the unchartered water, you need a compass that works. : First of all, I think it is very timely piece for our turbulent world today and not so distant future. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Daniel Klein -- Well worth a listen : I read Terry Thiele's work in manuscript. It is engrossing. It picks up on interpretations of our past, our present, and current trends, to speculate on what's ahead. The speculations are not insistent; they are conjectural and presented as only part of the wide and unknown world of possibilities. Still, they are worth thinking about—sooner rather than later. Thiele writes well and is not hysterical. If you feel that the world is changing rapidly and you seek help in thinking about possibilities ahead, read the book.
